We spent most of day 3 driving. We saw a lot of Mississippi's nature scenery. Our first meeting didn't happen because the person was sick. We were able to talk really quickly (about 3 minutes) with another faculty member, but didn't seem to capture their full attention. I'll call the coordinator that we were originally supposed to meet with and have our conversation via conference call.
Our second meeting of the day was with some folks 3 and a half hours away at the University of Southern Mississippi in Hattiesburg. While USM is not an HBCU, this strategy is also focusing on southern schools - and we also had been contacted by a student there. The meeting was good. We definitely convinced the professor, and leadership we met with that the Campus Camp would be beneficial. They want to make sure that there will be sufficient student interest.
One thing many schools down here, and really around the nation, are facing are major budget cuts. We think that one of our major next steps is to look at funding possibilities to both continue these types of relationship building trips as well as supplementing the school portion of the cost of bringing a campus camp - particularly when there is student interest and faculty/institutional support.
The Essence Of Education
What goes through one's mind when you hear such statement: One thing many schools down here, and really around the nation, are facing are major budget cuts?
I need experts in this field help answer these questions:
** Are you telling me many of our schools around the nation are too " fat" that required to get "slimmer"?
**Are these schools really overfed or is it our societal imagination?
**How would the major budget cuts benefit and or harm our future as a nation and a leader?
