106 Alumni Won Election in 2008!

Wellstone Action is excited to announce our alumni winners in the 2008 elections.

Out of 278 Wellstone Action alumni we were tracking as candidates this election season, 247 of them actually made it to the ballot last Tuesday.*

106 of those candidates won their election in 24 states! Of those:

* These numbers are based on a combination of self-reporting and comparing Wellstone Action's list of alums with lists of candidates running for office in all 50 states. We certainly may have missed some alums, especially those running for local races. If we missed you, let us know!

this is a great map! i love seeing all of the wellstone action alumns / newly elected folks this way - very cool!

Presidential Race

Is it just me or are people asking if someone on Obama's field team was a CW alum? Too many coincidences starting with Camp Obama to the quote you always use at the wrap up: We are the leaders we have been waiting for. (Sorry for botching it up). Just seems like an awful lot of similarities in approach as well. The Obama campaign shared too many of the Wellstone core values and practices to be a coincidental connection.

But the Obama campaign is one high-profile example that the winning brand of politics that Paul and Sheila Wellstone practiced is back in vogue, and at the highest levels. This thing called field organizing is changing the definition of a winning politics, and it may actually help win the presidency of the United States this year. If people-based, field-oriented, grassroots campaigns can dominate and win at the national level, then it follows that one of our own graduates can do the same. Your commitment to developing new leaders has a direct impact on making that happen
