Questions

Hi to all at Wellstone! Not sure I should even be answering these questions as I am living and working in England and your competition might only apply to people in the USA! But here goes! Q 1 Answer Paul's last major votes in the Senate had mental health in common Q2 Answer Paul's key issues when he ran for State Auditor was economic democracy I do hope they are right as I would like to receive the book! I live and work in the North East of England with an organisation led and run by people who have long term mental health needs who have experienced social exclusion. We are a social enterprise and don't have a lot of money so your book would be great to have to aid us in our work with refugees and asylum seekers, with people who are learning disabled, people who are on tehvery fringes of our society! We undertake research, evaluation and training that is of importance to us such as Mental Health First aid training, Human Rights training, self help and recovery training etc. We are called developing partners. We do not use capital letters on our name to show our solidarity with people at the bottom of the social hierarchy! Our website is www.developingpartners.org.uk and www.mhfa-northeast.co.uk if anyone wants to suss us out! Take a look at the slide show from our launch event as it is good for a laugh and will show you who we are, what we do etc. Anyone who wants to get in touch from Wellstone or anywhere who shares our passion and enhtusiasm for our work then please feel free! jacquiluvslife@hotmail.com With Warm wishes to ALL Jacqui

Oops!

Just realised I am out of sinc with your time frame so will post my answers again after 12 your time! It's 4.30pm here! LOL Jacqui

Responce to Trivia Question

Hello, I thought I'd give this contest a shot, as I plan on running in my city's next election and thought this book would be an amazing resource! #1) Paul Wellstone's first and last votes in the Senate delt with the authorization of force against Iraq...his first vote was on the First Iraq War and his last vote was on the Current Iraq War. #2) When he ran for State Auditor in 1982, his main issue had nothing to do with finance...it was about a nuclear freeze. At the DFL's nominating convention, he spoke about how a state auditor really doesnt have much to do with the nuclear arms race, but ended by saying something to the effect of "the survival of minnisotans is a minnisota issue". He also called for antipoverty programs, environmental awareness and economic justice. Not sure if I'm right, but I thought I'd try anyway. Thanks for the opportunity and keep up the amazing work! Sorry!

Hit the enter button too early...sorry about that. Chris Erl

Trivia Answer

They both were votes against military action against Iraq (Both Presidents were George Bushes) and both were considered politically courageous since they seemed to go against the opinions of his constituency.

I'm guessing that both his

I'm guessing that both his first and last votes were involving mental health legislation? As for Auditor - I'd imagine economic justice would have been his key issue.

Trivia contest answers

Trivia

His first vote was to oppose George Bush, Sr.'s war in Iraq in 1991, and his final vote was to oppose George Bush, Jr.'s war in Iraq.

Congratulations!

Congrats to Luke Fuszard, who had the correct answer to both the trivia question and the special bonus round. Consolation prize will go to Chris Erl, who also had the correct answer but hit the "send" button a few minutes too early and I am just a big softy.

Unfortunately, Chris - my computer ate your email address, so please send it to me at elana(at)wellstone(dot)org.

HOWEVER - a prize is still available to the one who can tell us what ELSE Paul Wellstone's first and last major votes in the Senate had in common, in addition the fact that they were both regarding going to war in Iraq.

Twitter!

Let's get this Twitter party started!

They were both "nay" votes?

They were both "nay" votes?

They both had to do with

They both had to do with funding? As opposed to just the policy.

He was one of only 11

He was one of only 11 senators to vote against the war in both cases?

Guess

Both votes against the Iraq war.

My Ireland based Trivia guess, which everyone knows!

"Iraq" is the answer to the Trivia question, regarding Senator Paul Wellstone's two Senate votes which held a common denominator, 1990-2002, and, illustrated his strong "Conscience of a Liberal". Great idea to hold a quiz! I think your Site should run a Wellstone quiz, but without any prizes, every week, in order to stimulate Liberal Memory and to keep the Liberal Agenda in the forefront of Voters's minds, between now and November!

trivia question

Senator Wellstone's first vote was on defense regarding Iraq, as was his last, wasn't it?

Try, Try and Try again!

Apart from Paul Wellstone being one of only 11 who voted against in both cases which someone else has already answered, could it be that both votes were against a President with the surname Bush, father and son! Still trying for that book (Politics the Wellstone Way!) Well done Luke! Cheers Jacqui

Congrats again!

To Jacqui, who sealed another victory! Both votes against the war in Iraq were against two different Presidents Bush. One more Winning Your Election the Wellstone Way to you!

WOW! Never expected that!

Thanks Elana I am delighted to have won and have found out loads about Paul Wellstone into the bargain! Can I ask one favour though as I am prob not going to go for Election could I have a copy of Politics the Wellstone way instead please? Or is this pushing my luck too far! I am interested to know more about Paul's Politics and his approach and as a Liberation / Community Psychologist working in partnership with people who are socially excluded I hoped to apply some of Paul's wisdom to my work in the UK! I am absolutely delighted!!!!!! So no worries if swopping books is not possible! Thankyou Jacqui

Wellstone's '90& 02 Senate Votes : My Guesses quoted right

Greeetings fellow Wellstone admirers!

My quote, regarding a guess on the late Senator's 1st and Last Senate Floor Vote, was conveyed correctly, on this website....I guessed that they were both on the matter of Iraq, vis a vis US military action on same.

I remain, because of meeting two remarkable Hunter College Professors, an unabashed Liberal. I remain, because of an unfinished, and undelivered research paper, into the 1996 Re-election campaign on Senator Paul Wellstone, to the United States Senate Seat of Minnnesota, an "embarassingly liberal" (to steal from Republican Rudy Boschwitz terminology of the day) Irish-American, now living abroad.
